Step on a Crack
you were told to behave
or the crack you stepped on would find a way to break your mother’s back
or wait till your father gets home
tattle tales and the holy scriptures
told you so
told you about the bodies twisted in torment
and then something happened
not because you were cruel or disobedient
something happened and it was terrible
and you then had to decide
whether good needed to be renamed
